On behalf of Tiara Air:

During a press conference some months back with Mr. Alejandro Muyale, Director of Tiara Air did announced to the press that one of the future goals will be including the Airport Tax in the ticket for the destinations Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao.

Which this week Mr. Alejandro Muyale announced to all media “Today I am pleased to confirm that Tiara Air has included the Airport Tax in our tickets as of October 1, 2010.

Next to the Airport Tax being included in our tickets, we have introduced our “ONLINE CHECK-IN” which comes in very handy with the taxes being included.

Now our customers can purchase their ticket online, and check-in online, and upon arrival to the Airport if not having baggage for check-in they can proceed directly to Airport Security for identification control, immigration and onto the gate.

This will eliminate two lines being the check-in line at the counter and the Airport Tax purchasing line.

Mr. Camilo Muyale, Sales & Marketing Director, also announced that we have Cargo Services which is operating between islands, Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao.

We thank you for the cooperation and look forward to working with you in serving our customers and this way make their experience at the Airport as comfortable as possible which will only stimulate future repetitive visits.

For more informations you can visit: or call your local Tiara Air office.

This years' Kids Sea Camp was two weeks back to back of fun for kids, teens and their parents! Buddy Dive Resort has been hosting the Kids Sea Camp program for 5 years in a row, and we are happy to know it was again a great success. Kids get the opportunity to experience the wonderful island environment either by land or water activities, while parents get to enjoy diving and/or relaxing.

The Kids Sea Camp program runs from Sunday-Friday, and during that time many exciting things can happen to kids; like a PADI Open Water Certification or Junior Open Water Certification or becoming a PADI SEAL member!  This year, Buddy Dive Instructors certified 18 kids, adding 18 more divers to the world’s population. Some Advanced Open Water students were made during the week also. For the kids too young for certification, they learned skills in the pools on site, and then got a chance to experience a real dive, thus earning them a place on the PADI Seal Team. Diving and snorkeling activities played a big role with these kids while here at Buddy Dive Resort, but they also went tubing, sunset sailing, kayaking, site seeing and even went to pay the donkeys a visit at the Donkey Sanctuary.

With all these things accomplished, no wonder it was a success. Kids Sea Camp at Buddy Dive Resort is really a special time for families and we are happy to have helped make their vacation memorable and fun.

Thursday evening August 26th, Buddy Dive Resort and guests welcomed Dr. Eugenie Clark, alias “The Shark Lady”, a world-renowned ichthyologist and authority on sharks.  Dr Clark gave a presentation at The Poolbar entitled “Sea Monsters I Have Known”.

Now retired from teaching, Dr. Clark joined the faculty in 1968 at the Department of Biology, University of Maryland, College Park, where she still holds the title of Senior Research Scientist and Professor Emerita. She currently conducts her research at the Center for Shark Research at the Mote Marine Laboratory, where her title is Senior Research Scientist and Founding Director.

She has held positions as a research assistant at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, at the New York Zoological Society, and at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. She was the founding director (1955 to 1967) of the Cape Haze Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida, now a leading center for shark research called the Mote Marine Laboratory with which she is still affiliated.

Dr. Clark is the recipient of three honorary D.Sc. degrees and numerous awards from the National Geographic Society, the Explorers Club, the Underwater Society of America, the American Littoral Society, the Gold Medal Award of the Society of Women Geographers, and the President's Medal of the University of Maryland. She has authored three books and over 160 scientific and popular articles.

She has conducted 71 deep submersible dives. Her latest research projects concern the behavior of tropical sand fishes and deep sea sharks. These studies have been featured in 12 articles she has written for National Geographic magazine.

All these experiences led to a very interesting photo presentation about underwater creatures that most people had never seen before. The presentation was well attended as our guests quietly enjoyed the stories told by the 88 year old shark expert. Afterwards, Dr Clark signed copies of one of her books, “The Lady and the Sharks”.

Last, but not least, we would like to congratulate Dr. Eugenie Clark who received the second Bonaire Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to her by Bonaire's Lt. Governor, Dr. Glenn A.E. Thodé. Dr. Sylvia Earle received the award last year. We already look forward to welcome next year’s award winner to host another presentation at Buddy Dive Resort.

BDR Digital Photo Center  has upgraded its rental fleet of underwater digital camera systems with the addition of the popular Canon SD 1400 IS. The camera features a 14 MP image and sharp 28 mm lens. Of course, optimal settings for easy u/w photography have been entered into the camera,  so even new photographers are able to get excellent pictures with our popular philosophy of “get close, auto-focus, take the picture…” Rounding out the system is the rugged Ike-lite ultra-compact housing.

We’ve also adopted a Good, Better, Best System approach to better serve Buddy Dive guests…

Good System – This is our basic point & shoot  camera system described above which is ideal for the beginning or casual photographer. The system records high quality, colorful images using the convenience and simplicity of the onboard flash.

Better System – Our Canon SD 1400 IS/Ikelite housing with a digital strobe, arm and tray continues  the simplicity of point & shoot photography with the added benefit of directional lighting. The digital strobe uses an optical sync cord and mimics the on-board flash. No camera or flash adjustments are necessary, just aim the camera and strobe at your subject and take the picture. Directional lighting helps to create dramatic underwater photos by introducing  shadow and increased texture.

Best System – Advanced point & shoot camera (Canon A650) w/ external digital strobe. This camera can be set to shoot in full manual or aperture priority which gives a photographer even more creative control when exposing images underwater.

The Digital Photo Center is located on the waterfront at Buddy Dive Resort. In addition to digital camera and video rentals, we feature digital photo instructions at all levels. Be sure to see our selection of ready made, “Grab n Go” driftwood sign art. Custom made driftwood art is also available.
